If you think you have a problem hearing, you do! I recently saw a new patient who had a “free hearing test” a few years ago because she thought she had a hearing problem. When she was tested she was told that “her hearing wasn’t bad enough” to do anything about it. She should have gotten a second opinion then, but she struggled for an additional four years before I saw her. She needed help and I was happy to help her to have a better quality of life. Hurricane Season is Here
I am hoping that we won’t have a repeat of last year’s hurricane season. However, I do think that we all learned a few things last year and can be better prepared. When you prepare your hurricane kit for the year, don’t forget about your hearing aids. Be sure to add extra batteries, domes and filters to your kit. Protect your Ears from the Sun
Ears are a prime target for sun exposure and a common spot for skin cancers. Up to 1/3 of all skin cancer occurs on the ears. It is also difficult to see your entire ear when looking in the mirror. If you feel a rough scaly patch, you should have it checked out. Also, note any changes in skin color. Most of us don’t think about our ears when we apply sunscreen even though it is important to use sunscreen on your ears. Don’t forget the back of your ears.
