Dementia or Hearing Loss?
Several years ago, I saw a gentleman residing in a nursing home for an evaluation. The staff had referred him because he was hitting staff members and talking nonsense. He had been diagnosed with dementia and psychosis. When his hearing was evaluated, the results were a severe hearing loss. It turned out that he was startled when people approached him and he struck out at them. He also spoke nonsense, because he heard nonsense. Locked Hearing Aids
Did you know that when you get hearing aids at Costco, Sam’s Club and from some providers, like Audigy, the hearing aids are locked? What this means is that the software in the hearing aid is locked, so that you cannot just take your hearing aids wherever you would like for service. This may never be a problem, or it could turn into a huge problem.
