I am frequently asked by my patients and family members, what can be done with old hearing aids?
With in-the-ear hearing aids, the only option is to donate them to a hearing charity. We can help you with that.
With behind-the-ear hearing aids, sometimes they can be used by someone else. If the hearing aids are three years old or newer, perhaps a family member or friend might be able to use them. The person receiving the hearing aids, will be fit with the hearing aids and receive counseling on proper use. There are charges involved in re-fitting hearing aids, but it is less expensive than having to purchase hearing aids.
Older behind-the-ear hearing aids can also be donated. They are frequently refurbished and used for mission trips in third world countries. So, don’t throw those old hearing aids out, bring them to us and we will help you determine what to do with them.
