Summertime Vacation Hearing tips

June 4, 2015 by Kathy

The long hot days of summer have arrived. There are a few things that you can do to keep your hearing aids in good working order.

St. Petersburg park on Tampa BayIf you are a frequent beachgoer, bring a hearing aid case to put your hearing aids into while you swim. The hearing aids should then be placed inside a beach bag that can be zipped closed. We have a patient who thought he put his hearing aids into his bag, they were never seen again. Please take extra care.

Most hearing aids today are water resistant. That does not mean water proof. You should still take care with your aids. It is probably not a good idea to wear them to your water aerobics class or swim with them, even if you don’t put your head under water.

If you are flying, leave your hearing aids in. You need to hear the announcements and they are safer left in your ears. We have had several patients lose their hearing aids while traveling. Maintaining your normal hearing aid routine is important.

If you are visiting friends or relatives with small children or pets, remember they can be broken or eaten. Keep your hearing aids in a safe place when they are not in use.

If you are planning to go away for an extended vacation. Stock up on hearing aid supplies before you go. You don’t want to waste time looking for batteries. You have better things to do.

If you are concerned that you are no longer hearing your best, give us a call at 727-323-2471.
