PSAPs Are Not Hearing Aids

February 28, 2019 by Kathy

PSAPs (Personal Sound Amplifiers) are not hearing aids and aren’t meant to be used in place of hearing aids.

Broadwater Hearing CareWhile they are much less expensive, they are not regulated by the FDA like hearing aids are. Because they are not regulated, the advertisements can say just about anything.

If you think you have a hearing loss, the first step is a professional hearing evaluation. Sometimes there are simple solutions that don’t require hearing aids or PSAPs.

Hearing aids are available in many types, styles and price ranges and can be programmed for you. PSAPs just amplify everything. They can even damage your hearing if they are too loud.

Your best bet is to work with an audiologist who can guide you to the devices that will help you the most. If you would like more information or have questions, give us a call at 727-323-2471.
