October is Audiology Awareness Month. With so many people selling hearing aids out there, it is difficult to know where to turn.
Did you know that a Hearing Instrument Specialist is only required to have 6 months of training? Would you ever trust your teeth to professional with that tiny amount of training? Of course not! How about your eyes? I thought not.
So, why do people trust someone with a high school diploma and six months of training to help them with their hearing? An audiologist has a minimum of a Masters Degree in Audiology. That means six years of school. Most audiologist have an Au.D., Doctor of Audiology degree. That means eight years of school. Audiologists are the most qualified professionals providing hearing health care.
Do you have friends who hate their hearing aids and never wear them?
Chances are you do. This is very unfortunate, because almost everyone with hearing loss can benefit from hearing aids. The key to success is working with a knowledgeable audiologist who will help you every step of the way.
I hear all the time that this person went to XYZ because the hearing aids were inexpensive. If they can’t be used satisfactorily, they are very expensive. Hearing aids prices do not have to be outrageous. Part of the cost of the hearing aids is for programming and counselling. As an audiologist, I want my patients to be successful and will take the necessary time to make that happen. That won’t happen with the hearing aid ordered online or the hearing aid bought at a big box store.
It makes me very happy to help my patient hear the very best they can. I can’t make hearing perfect, but I can certainly improve the quality of life for my patients.
I look forward to working with you. Give us a call at 727-323-2471 to set up a consultation.
