Today I tested someone with normal hearing! That always makes me happy. I don’t often get to work with people with normal hearing.
There are many things that you can do to prevent hearing loss. The biggest factor today is noise exposure. Noise is everywhere.
There is so much noise in our society today that you don’t really think about it. The obvious thing that you can do is to avoid noise. This is not very easy.
If you are working with power tools, lawn mowers, leaf blowers, etc., wear ear plugs. You can pick them up at any hardware store, sporting goods store, or drug store.
If you go to a concert, wear ear plugs. You will hear the music even better and your ears won’t ring for 4 days afterward.
If you are a musician, hunter, or motorcycle rider, there are custom earplugs that will protect your hearing and allow you to hear well at the same time. There are even custom plugs available for people who are exposed to noise at work.
I would much rather help someone prevent a hearing loss than help them deal with their hearing loss.
