My Hearing Aids Got Wet – Help!

June 23, 2017 by Kathy

At least once a week one of my patients comes in and tells me that they got in the shower with their hearing aids on.

shower pictureIt isn’t the problem that it used to be. Most hearing aids are nano coated to prevent moisture damage.

So, if you accidentally get into the shower with your hearing aids on, don’t panic. Hop right back out, and there shouldn’t be any damage.

Wipe off the hearing aid. Open the battery door and throw out the battery. Let the hearing aid dry out and insert a new battery. The hearing aid should work.

If you are still having problems with your hearing aids, call us as soon as possible.

I almost never need to send a hearing aid in for repair if it gets wet. So don’t panic. Prevention is always best. If you can make it part of your routine to tap your ears before you get into the shower or jump into the pool, you will never have a problems.
