I am hoping that we won’t have a repeat of last year’s hurricane season. However, I do think that we all learned a few things last year and can be better prepared.
When you prepare your hurricane kit for the year, don’t forget about your hearing aids. Be sure to add extra batteries, domes and filters to your kit.
If you have rechargeable hearing aids, be sure to have either regular batteries or extra power sources for your recharger. Many of us didn’t have power for several days after Irma last year. It is even more important to hear well in an emergency situation.
I had two patients lose hearing aids last year because they did not have a container to keep them in while they were evacuated. Be sure to have a designated container for your aids marked with your name, address and phone number.
Be prepared for the worst, hope for the best.
