I was hoping that we would be done with face masks by now, but that isn’t going to happen.
Masks have made wearing hearing aids a lot more challenging. There are a few things that you can do to make it easier:
1. Use a mask holder that keeps the mask off of your ears.
2. Make sure that your mask fits properly. If the elastic is too tight, it pulls your ears forward. This causes a poor fit with your hearing aids, making it more likely that you will lose them.
3. Always remove your mask by lifting the top of the elastic and move it to the back of your head. If you remove the lower elastic and move it toward the front of your head, you can fling your hearing aids across the room.
4. Custom ear molds hold the hearing aids more securely. I would be happy to show you what they look like and explain how they work.
5. You may find toupee tape helpful. You can find toupee tape at a wig store or, order from Amazon.
During the past year, Many of my patients have told me that they have not been
wearing their hearing aids. I have seen alarming cognitive decline in several of them. Lack of socialization and not being able to hear well has taken its toll. We still need to social distance, but you need to hear. If you need help getting back to using your hearing aids, I am here to help you.
