“I’m worried that my mom won’t hear if someone knocks on her door, OR rings the doorbell! Heaven forbid they break in, she wouldn’t hear it over how loud her tv is!”
Well, that’s a valid point. I often see family members accompany their loved ones to hearing aid consults. Oftentimes their concerns for their family member with hearing loss has been ongoing for years. At some point the worry outweighs their ability to let their family member “sit in silence” and go on living with the burden of hearing loss.
Some patients are hesitant to get hearing aids because they think “well I live alone, so what’s the point?”
My one word answer is always: INDEPENDENCE.
Being able to hear opens doors that allow you to be more independent and to interact with your world! Whether that’s simply for safety (ex: people coming to the front door!), answering phone calls, doctor’s visits, or grocery store runs, it’s important to maintain that independence for as long as possible.
Don’t let hearing loss hold you back from living your fullest, independent life!
