Grading Scale of Falls

September 17, 2022 by Kathy

Grading Scale of Falls

Do you feel like you are clumsy or “almost fall” often?

Researchers at Johns Hopkins developed the “Hopkins Falls Grading Scale.”  This is a 4 point scale that categorizes different kinds of falls.  Here are the kinds of falls on this scale:

[Grade 1 Near fall]

Slip, trip, or loss of balance but able to catch yourself

Did not fall to the floor or a lower level like a chair

[Grade 2 Fall]

Fell to the ground or a lower level but did not need medical care

[Grade 3 Fall]

Fell to the ground or a lower level and required medical attention but did not need to be admitted to the hospital

[Grade 4 Fall]

Fell to the ground or lower level and required admission to the hospital

Information about any of these kinds of falls is important for us to know when we are discussing balance concerns.

We are here to help if you or a family member is having any difficulties with hearing, hearing aids, hearing aid apps or Tinnitus please give us a call at 727-323-2471 and set up an appointment.
