Great article in Healthy Hearing by Joy Victory - Tips for getting used to new hearing aids 1. Wear them at home first Start by wearing your hearing aids at home or in other quiet listening environments. Focus on having one-on-one conversations. Let your friends and family know you’re using your new hearing aids so they can help you stay committed to better hearing as you wear your aids in more challenging environments. Reading aloud or talking to your pet can also help … [Read more...]
Consumers Beware
Amplifiers are not hearing aids. Consumers Beware. Some amplifiers can damage your hearing because they raise sounds above a safe volume. Also, once you purchase an amplifier, you may be stuck with it. They often have limited trial periods and rigorous return policies! Didn’t complete the return process correctly? You may be charged another 20% fee. At Broadwater Hearing Care, we are a local family-owned business. The money you spend here stays in our community, and … [Read more...]
Hearing Aids are more than a Microphone
Believe it or not I still have a lot of patients who think that hearing aids are just a simple device with a microphone and a speaker. Amplifying everything around us. While this may be true for most amplifiers that are made online, this is not the case for some of the best amplification devices made by the top manufacturers in the world. At Broadwater Hearing Care we only fit quality devices that we know will stand the test of time: ✅ They have advanced computer chips that are used to … [Read more...]
Act to Expand Medicare for Hearing Aids
This is an important Act presented by US Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), Chair of the House Ways & Means Health Subcommittee to Expand Medicare to include Hearing Aids and Exams. Executive Order re Over-the-Counter Hearing Aids
President Biden recently signed an executive order for over-the-counter hearing aids. While I commend President Biden’s efforts, they are short-sighted. Over-the-counter hearing aids have been available for some time. The FDA was mandated to establish a regulatory category for this type of hearing aids in 2017. The FDA regulates hearing devices, as they can adversely affect hearing if fit incorrectly. The prices of hearing aids quoted was ridiculous. Hearing aids are available in all price … [Read more...]
What’s the difference in getting Hearing Aids from a Doctor vs online?
What makes buying hearing aids from Broadwater Hearing Care different than going online, a warehouse club, or drug store? This is probably the most common question asked by my patients. Believe me when I say, I understand. Hearing aids are a big investment and you want to make sure you’ve done your research. However, I explain to my patients that the job of an audiologist is not to “sell a product”. My goal is to help you improve your quality of life by hearing your best...and one of … [Read more...]
Over-the-Counter Hearing Aids
There has been a lot of information in the news about over-the-counter hearing aids. While this may be a good idea for some, most people who need hearing aids really need the help of an audiologist to get the most out of their devices. A hearing test that you complete online in your kitchen is not going to be as accurate as a test done in the proper environment by a professional trained to test hearing. It does make a difference. You may not be saving any money. The prices of online … [Read more...]

The Importance of Getting Help When You Need It We had a patient that had been wearing hearing aids for several years. They really hadn’t helped her enough for the last two years, but she had put off getting new hearing aids because she was getting by. Not hearing great, but hearing better than without her hearing aids. This February, she decided that it was finally time to replace her old hearing aids.
