It is easy to go online today and order hearing aids. The prices look great, but programming and service are not included in the price of the hearing aids.
Most hearing aid manufacturers do not want their products sold online. Hearing aids work best and provide the most benefit when they are fit by an audiologist.
To combat this practice, the manufacturers are voiding warranties on hearing aids purchased online. So, your bargain hearing aid is no great deal.
Hearing aid repairs on out of warranty aids are expensive and there is no guarantee that the manufacturer will agree to repair hearing aids that were not purchased through an authorized channel.
The ear is a very complex organ. Being fit with hearing aids is not like picking up a pair of reading glasses at the drugstore. Most successful hearing aid users require multiple visits for programming adjustments and counseling. Hearing aids are available in all price ranges, some are very inexpensive.
The key to doing well with any hearing aid, from basic to the most advanced is ongoing care.
