Anemia’s Impact on Hearing

March 12, 2017 by Kathy

Anemia Has Been Linked to Hearing Loss

A recent study in JAMA Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery has demonstrated that iron deficiency anemia has been associated with hearing loss.

Iron Deficiency AnemiaOver the past few years many studies have linked nutritional deficiencies with hearing loss. It now appears that anemia can be added to the list.

If you have been diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia, it is important to treat the anemia and to schedule a hearing evaluation.

Hopefully early treatment of anemia will prevent hearing loss. However, since the condition has been linked to hearing loss, a baseline hearing evaluation is a good step as part of your overall healthcare.

Give us a call at 727-323-2471 to learn more about this or schedule your appointment with Dr. Susan Terry at Broadwater Hearing Care.
