Over the past few weeks I have had several people lose their hearing aids. Needless to say, this can be traumatic and expensive. Most of these accidents can be avoided with a little care.
Here is a guideline to help you keep track of your aids.
1. Never wrap your hearing aids in a tissue. Someone will think it is garbage and throw it out.
2. Do not leave your hearing aids where your dog or cat can get to it. They will eat it. (Yes, even your very well behaved dog will eat it!)
3. Always put your hearing aids away in the same spot, preferably in the box it came in or in a dry spot container.
4. If you put your hearing aids in your breast pocket, be aware that when you bend over they could fall out.
5. If you are traveling and are in an unfamiliar spot, take extra care.
6. Have a box on your night table for your hearing aids. Don’t just set them on the table. I have had many patients lose their aids this way.
7. When you travel, have your hearing aids in your ears. If you must take them out, put them in a box and inside a carry-on bag in a zipped compartment.
I am sure that there are many other ways to lose hearing aids. Be careful and stick to your routine. This will minimize the chance of loss.
All hearing aids come with one or two year loss coverage. Once this warranty expires, we have insurance available to cover loss. If you have questions, give us a call. 727-323-2471.
